I've mentioned local singer-songwriter Helen Reeves in this blog before (she's still playing every Sunday at 4pm at the Clutha Vaults pub by the way- lovely pub and a great gig). Her twin brother Travis has a film showing at this year's Glasgay Festival - a documentary called "Funny Kinda Guy", about a local FTM transgendered singer-songwriter. The film won the audience choice award for best documentary at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival this year which is quite an accolade- apparently it's quite a big festival. Helen and Travis live near me on the Southside of Glasgow- along the road, around the corner, and along a bit and around another corner and down a bit. Cool eh?
Speaking of queer singer-songwriters, Helen recently organised a gig for Canadian bluegrass singer-songwriter Rae Spoon, here in Glasgow. It was in a tiny pub and there were only about 20 of us there, but Rae was so fantastic and I bought his new CD "Your Trailer Door". Great bluegrass voice, great bluegrass guitar and banjo pickin', great songs.
