Just got home from an unplanned night out- the Scottish Socialist Party put on a fund-raising gig tonight with Asian Dub Foundation as the headline act- fantastic. So much good stuff going on in the lead-up to G8 - tonight I definitely felt rallied as a troop. Would 15 year old me have ever thought I'd be pogo-ing still at 39 years of age? To dub/reggae/hiphop/rocknroll British Asian political music too?
It was a bit of a shame that there weren't more people there- I don't think the SSP could have publicised it much outside of lefty circles because last time ADF were in town I'm sure they sold out. However that left those of us who were there with a once in a lifetime opportunity - to see a major act in a half full venue which allowed even us shorter types to bounce, boogie and bop right up the front with loads of room, and able to see the stage. There were enough people that one didn't feel like a twat of course.
So, here we go bangin' on the walls of fascist Europe... I didn't even realise that Dubya will be in Scotland for this... what will you be doing to make him feel welcome?
The other thing that made this a weekend of music was going to see local act Helen Reeves at the Bon Accord last night. She's so great. Why isn't she wildly famous yet?
